JAN - PROFESSOR & DIEHARD NETBALL TRAGIC.

- How old are you? How old do you feel and why?
60 but feel the same as I did when I was 29! Except I know more. I understand more about life and about my profession and have the confidence to make decisions based on what I know and how I “read” an opportunity or challenge.
- What’s your spin on self care and what do you do to make you feel great?
I’m not great at prioritising time for myself, to relax and recharge. I like to help out wherever I can, whether it’s family, friends or work related… and all that will come before “me time”. Truth is, I enjoy helping and get lots of satisfaction from helping others whenever I can.
I am getting better at choosing to make time to get a pedi or massage or just spend a ½ hour walking around the streets near home, looking over picket fences at neighbours gardens! I also take every chance I can to spend a night at our house nearby Rye back beach, winter or summer it doesn’t matter, the cobwebs blow away.
- Song you last sang….. come on, be honest! Even if it was a TV commercial??!!
(I’ve had the) Time of my life - it was playing on Spotify.
Have to thank you Mel for getting me organised on Spotify. That day you did my pics. You had a great playlist on the studio sound system.. Turned out it was Faff’s playlist from her Party and you shared it with me. No turning back!!
- Who? What? Are your inspirations.
My Mum & Dad. They taught me that nothing is impossible if I work hard and make the most of every opportunity no matter how small. Volunteer and help others wherever possible and treat others as I would wish to be treated.
- Early riser? Sleep in-er?? What time were you up this morning? What do you pack into your average day?
I’m a sleep in-er-er. Nothing better than an extra “40 winks” of sleep. Today, Mother’s Day, I woke at 6:30 then, suddenly, it was 8:15!!! Then had toast & hot water (I don’t drink tea) in bed reading the paper. Bliss! But that’s only possible on weekends because my work (week) days & Saturday’s most often start at 7.00 or 7.30am.
I’m also a night owl so can get home from work at 7.30pm, have dinner, wind down for a while in front of TV (Masterchef or watching Chip & Joanna flip a Texas house are favourites) and then hit my study for a couple of hours to finish work tasks. Sleep 5 or 6 hours and repeat!
- What’s your definition of friendship?
When minutes, days or even years pass between meeting but it feels like there’s been no time between catch ups with true friends.
- What challenges you everyday?
What we, as a global community, are doing to each another (as people) and to the Earth (our home & the future for my boys)
- What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given and why?
“Go for it”. Why? Why not?!
